GROWING SUPPORT FOR CHRONIC LBP RELIEF WITH COX® TECHNIC

Chiropractic researchers and everyday clinical practitioners like your Severna Park chiropractor at Back And Neck Care Center witness the pain relief and function improvement. Some publish their results for all to see! A recently published case report of a 67 year old male veteran dealing with chronic low back pain and pain extending down his right leg occasionally described relief with Cox® Technic care. The patient reported experiencing this pain for decades. In 4 weeks and 4 visits of flexion distraction treatment together with moist heat and soft-tissue mobilization, he described improvement in his condition, decreased pain medication usage, and better mobility. (1) That’s a welcome outcome for this back pain sufferer!

WHAT’S UP WITH CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN? Spinal Manipulation’s Help

Chronic low back pain like that explained by the veteran in this case report is very prevalent and can be very distressing. Spinal manipulation is recommended for the management of chronic low back in quite a few guidelines supported by such groups as the American Pain Society and the American College of Pain Physicians. (2,3) With chronic low back pain, central sensitization – the effect of repeated nerve stimulation has on the central nervous system - is purported to contribute to chronicity of pain.  Spinal manipulation’s benefit may well stem from its impact on this sensitization. (4) That is an advantage chronic back pain sufferers can live with.

SPINAL MANIPULATION BETTER FOR CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN…REGARDLESS OF AGE

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (47 RCTs and 9211 participants) of spinal manipulation care for chronic low back pain stated that spinal manipulation generated similar effects to other suggested therapies of chronic low back pain (like exercise and drug therapy), was better than non-recommended intervention for short-term improvement, and had limited, mild-to-moderate, fleeting adverse effects. (5) Another such meta-analysis concluded that spinal manipulation appeared to be a good alternative for relief of pain and improvement of function for chronic low back pain sufferers. (6) In a meta-analysis specifically focused on older (ages 65-91 y/o) chronic low back pain sufferers, the same deductions were drawn: spinal manipulation should be considered a positive treatment for the older patient with chronic low back pain for pain relief and function improvement. (7) Most spinal manipulation is done by chiropractors according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. (8) And chiropractors like yours at Back And Neck Care Center studied extra in the delivery of the gentle, non-thrust type of spinal manipulation known as Cox® Technic which well know for its care of disc herniation and spinal stenosis pain as well as more usual spinal pain conditions.
