A new clinical trial is underway to examine
the effectiveness of a 6-week specific rehab program combining
education and exercises on walking capacity in those who have
lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Back And Neck Care Center knows
these Severna Park spinal pain conditions quite well…and offers
a relieving treatment plan of Cox® Technic spinal manipulation and mobilization
with exercise!
EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS TESTED
The aim of this described study is to investigate
whether adding an exercise program to an educational
program can improve walking capacity in those who
have lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Being a
randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 participants will be randomly assigned
to either the control group or the intervention group. The intervention group
will receive an educational program plus an exercise
program, while the control group will only receive the educational
program. The main outcome measure is walking capacity, while the
secondary outcome measures are pain intensity, disability level, and quality of
life. (1) Back And Neck Care Center knows our Severna Park spinal stenosis patients are
very concerned about these outcomes!
LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS WITH NEUROGENIC CLAUDICATION
Lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication is a spinal
issue that produces narrowing of the spinal canal in
the lower back region, resulting in pressure on the nerves. This can result in pain,
numbness, and weakness in the legs and buttocks. In really bad
cases, it can also make walking quite difficult.
The condition is most common in people over 50 years
old. These are just the folks in
Severna Park who need to keep (or at least start) exercising!
THE EXERCISES
The specific exercises that will be utilized
in this study are designed to enhance
walking capacity by stretching and strengthening the muscles around
the spine. The hope is that by performing these exercises on a
regular basis, patients will have less pain
and disability and have an improved quality of
life.
THE CONTROL GROUP
The control group in this trial will only receive
an educational program about their condition and how to take
care of it. While education is important, it is not usually
enough on its own to provide significant relief from symptoms. That
is why adding exercise is
so valuable. It includes the back
pain sufferer in his or her relief! Listen to this PODCAST

Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management for lumbar spinal stenosis.
