Severna Park chiropractic care helps control chronic back pain that causes pain beyond the back and into life that keeps sufferers from enjoying their lives.

Back pain patients come to Back And Neck Care Center with all sorts of different issues. Some walk better than others. Some have stronger muscles than others. Some are more susceptible to depression than others. Your Severna Park chiropractor knows this and joins each back pain patient where s/he is and examines each patient to discover the difference(s) that make all the difference when designing a relieving chiropractic treatment plan. Assessments like the 6-minute walk test that evaluates the distance walked in 6 minutes and the TUG (‘time up to go’ from a seated position) test can be quite educational about cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health in degenerative lumbar spine patients. Both may be triggered by back pain. (1) Back muscles that weaken and turn fatty (like the multifidus muscle tends to do) indicate issues with inflammatory and regeneration processes. (Back surgeons don’t like this as a poorer surgical outcome is possible.) (2) Chiropractors get this and promote gentle exercise for these back muscles as part of the treatment plan to avert recurrent back pain that a few lumbar disc degeneration patients endure. A new study described that those who tend to get recurrent back pain were shown to move in a different way, more guardedly, likely to avoid pain. Recurrent back pain patients also suffered with higher levels of anxiety, depression, and disability as well as a reduced quality of life. (3) Your Severna Park chiropractor embraces all back pain sufferers with all their peculiarities. Your chiropractor teams up with with each one throughout the current back pain episode and beyond to control the back pain (emotional, physical and mental aspects), so it doesn’t control them.

Listen to this PODCAST with Dr. Nike Taylor on The Back Doctors Podcast with Dr. Michael Johnson on how she eases pain in a chronic back pain patient in the middle of a recurrent episode of back pain via the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management to find relief and a feeling of control over back pain to minimize recurrent back pain episodes as much as possible.

Chronic Severna Park back pain may be helped by olfactory training which uses smelling scents to desensitize the sufferer to the pain.

Severna Park CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH:

SNIFFING SCENTS TO REDUCE PAIN!

An appealing study of chronic low back pain patients found that odor-training helped decrease their pain thresholds. Regular exposure (every 2 hours in the research project) to scents like rose, vanilla, peach and chocolate – olfactory training! - helped lessen pain. The researchers hinted that it may help reduce pain chronification and quite possibly control general pain via desensitization. (4) What an enjoyable addition this could be to the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management! You may want to try sniffing some good scents yourself!
