Severna Park Chiropractic Nutrition Tip: Enjoy Those Tomato, Bean and Pepper Gifts from Gardeners!

The gifts of the summer garden abound! The garden abundance is copious! Every family circle seems to have at least one passionate gardener with more tomatoes and green beans and peppers than he or she knows what to do with. Fortunately for us, generosity overflows in gardeners. Back And Neck Care Center encourages Severna Park chiropractic patients to appreciatively accept those green beans, peppers and tomatoes and eat them for an amazing anti-oxidant and nutritional boost to fight inflammation, heart disease, cancer, and more! Back And Neck Care Center embraces all of these benefits!

Back And Neck Care Center knows this is an amazing list of benefits. It’s difficult to separate these actions from each other! They are all healthy benefits. Tomatoes are very full of nutrients, supplying vitamin C, potassium and lycopene, an anti-oxidant that supports cancer and heart disease prevention and anti-inflammatory activity. (1,2) To boost absorption of lycopene, eat tomatoes with some tasty, healthy fats like olives, avocados or similar oils. (3) Bell and chili peppers are filled with vitamins C, A, E, K1 and potassium, folic acid and fiber. [We all could use a bit more fiber in our diets! Speaking of fiber, green beans are marvelous sources. Additionally, they have large number of proteins, carotenoids, and anti-oxidants with only a few calories. Green beans have nutrients reported to also be anticarcinogenic, helping prevent and even stop the spread of some cancers throughout the body. (4, 5, 6)] Further, peppers assist in fighting inflammation, too, with their anti-oxidants. Raw and roasted peppers have anti-oxidant benefits. Roasting may raise or lower those benefits determined by the pepper type and growth stage. (7,8,9) At any rate, your Severna Park chiropractor encourages you to eat some peppers, tomatoes, and green beans! Your body will repay you!
